Kenton downtown businesses get boost
Downtown Kenton businesses want to get the word out that they're still open as the construction project continues. Stepping up to help them is the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance. Deb Phillips, Director of Chamber and Tourism and Carol Steegman, coordinator of the Historic Courthouse District, spoke at Monday night's Kenton City Council meeting to promote their effort. They have come up with a D.E.A.L.S. (Discover and Explore Awesome Local Shops) Passport coupon booklet to encourage residents to visit downtown businesses. "We're hearing they are really having trouble" drawing customers with streets torn up for the infrastructure and revitalization project, Phillips said. The D.E.A.L.S. Passport features 18 coupons from 16 businesses around the square and a block off the square. The booklet is available at the businesses and at the Chamber office and the coupons are good through August 31. As a bonus for people who use the coupon, they can fill out the reverse side to enter a drawing for a prize basket valued at more than $400 to be awarded in September. "We think it's going to go well," Phillips said, with several coupons already redeemed. They plan to offer another booklet for October through December. Mayor Lynn Webb praised Phillips and Steegman for "their passion and fire for our community."Kenton downtown businesses get boost
