ππππππ πππππππππ: Players was organized in December, 1996, as the brain child of Phil Burson, former choir director at Kenton High School. Phil saw a wealth of talent in the citizens of our community and a need to promote the amateur theatrical arts in our area.
Our first show was "Arsenic and Old Lace" in February 1997, featuring Rosemary Fitzgerald, Judy Faulkner, David Faulkner and Lynn Davis in the lead roles. The rest of our first year included "Guys & Dolls", "Death Trap" and the first of our annual Children's Summer Theatre Workshops, which was created and directed by Phil Burson.
Hardin County Players is made up totally of volunteers, and with no theatre venue to call our own, we have relied on churches, fraternal organizations and schools to be the locations for our productions over the last twenty-seven years.
In 2010, Players decided to further encourage our area young people to participate in the arts by creating the "Take A Bow", or TAB, Awards. For this "red-carpet" event, a committee of Players' members attend the theatre production offered by each of the six schools; nominees are determined for 17 different categories. We wish to recognize the hard work our area schools put into presenting the many dramas, comedies and musicals which feature their students of many varied ages. The best-of-the-best are then chosen from those nominees. To try to assure that all schools are represented fairly, the location for the TAB Awards rotates among the six area schools.
The Hardin County Players is a 501C-3 entity; any and all donations to Players are tax-deductible. We welcome all interested persons to attend our meetings or to contact any of the current officers of Players: Brad Gerritsen, Rhonda Swisher, Julie Crowe or Megan Hanover for more information.
